Photography Course for DSLR Cameras
DSLR cameras are very popular, but how many of us truly know how to operate one? To get the best out of your camera, you need to switch from automatic to manual and really learn how to control your camera. One of our readers recently attended a course on photography in Jeddah and wrote to us about her experience.
I’m doing a 6-week course on photography these days with Geoffrey Adams at one of the Arabian Homes compounds here in Jeddah. I always loved taking photos, and would usually be the one behind the camera at family events, but I really had no clue as to the technicalities of taking photos and certainly never did I venture beyond going fully automatic.
We are only half-way through and I already feel as if I’ve learnt a great deal. The course is designed to get the most from your digital camera, and as Geoffrey constantly reminds us, getting ourselves ‘back in control of our cameras’.
The first week dealt with telephoto and wide-angle shots. The second was about aperture and its effect on photographs, and the third week is about shutter speed and movement. Every week we are given an assignment to submit in the following lesson, and this hands-on approach is a great way to learn about our cameras and all the features that come along with it.
Another great aspect of the course is meeting the other people in the group, most of whom live on Arabian Homes compounds, but others travel from outside. I’m looking forward to the remainder of the course – it’s given me a renewed interest in photography!
